Who we are

Walker & Co is a small progressive law firm based in New Zealand’s capital city, Wellington. We help small and medium sized businesses, including those in the specialised area of franchising. We also help individuals and families with personal matters such as buying and selling homes and protecting their property and assets.

I was born and raised in Invercargill. I graduated from Otago University in 1998 with a BSc and LLB (Hons), and was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 1999.

I began my legal career in the Wellington office of one of the ‘Big 6’ law firms, specialising in banking and finance and company and commercial law. This was followed by time at Telecom in the Commercial team, negotiating supply agreements. I joined Martin Wilson Law in early 2002, and took over the practice from Martin Wilson in December 2005.

In my spare time, I enjoy playing golf as well as a host of social sports (including tennis, indoor cricket and touch rugby). I’ll read almost anything to do with investing, and anything by Jeffrey Archer. I am also occasionally persuaded by my wife Mary to help with the renovation and landscape of our Northland property.

I started my career practicing commercial, property and public law. My working life since then has been in start-up ventures, both business and community-based, including a lot of work with young people around leadership and entrepreneurship.  I enjoy working with Hamish here at Walker & Co, and primarily spend my time on business development and administrative functions.

I love gardening and proudly admit to being into all things handcrafty and sewing.  Currently my time at home is consumed with the landscaping of our sunny, but windswept, property in Northland with very occasional (and often begrudging) assistance from Hamish.

I have an LLB and BCA from Victoria University of Wellington, and was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 1999.
